2023 Afcon Qualifiers: Osimhen and Lookman in as Peseiro names Nigeria squad for Guinea Bissau

Nigeria coach Jose Peseiro has released his squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea Bissau with Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and Paul Onuachu among those selected.

Having won their first two matches, the Super Eagles lead Group A. They will be hoping to continue their perfect start against the West Africans inside Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on March 24. Three days later, the reverse fixture will hold at the Estadio 24 de Setembro in Bissau.

Peseiro picked a strong team for the Djurtus with the trio making the cut alongside Everton’s Alex Iwobi, and Leicester City’s duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi.

Others are Villarreal forward Samuel Chukwueze and Southampton midfielder Joe Aribo. However, Nottingham Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi was conspicuously missing alongside goalkeeper Maduka Okoye.

Nigeria U20’s Daniel Bameyi and  Chijioke Aniagboso have been handed a maiden call-up to the three-time African champions as well as Rivers United goalkeeper Victor Sochima.

Egyptian referee Mahmoud Elbana will be in the centre, with his compatriots Youssef Elbosaty, Sami Halhal and Ahmed El-Ghandour to function as assistant referee 1, assistant referee 2 and fourth official respectively. Prosper Harrison Addo from Ghana will be the match commissioner and his compatriot Kotey Alexander will be the referee assessor.
