It’s going to be as big as when Leo slammed Bartomeu – but what is he going to tell us this time?

Decision on future

The new year starts in less than two weeks, so it may be the perfect timing for Leo to say whether he’s going to be a Cule in 2021 and beyond.

He wouldn’t say exactly whether he’ll join Man City or PSG (especially because he’d have legal problems since negotiating before January 1 is prohibited), but he may drop a big hint or say directly that he’ll sign a new deal with Barca as soon as the new president comes.

Ultimatum

It’s hard to believe in this scenario but what if Leo wants people to know the only president he’d like to see at Barca? Over the past few days, we’ve seen Joan Laporta insisting that he knows how to make Messi happy again. Some sources even reported that the two contacted each other not long ago.

What if Messi’s New Year wish is Laporta’s appointment? This would completely ruin the competitiveness of the election campaign but people would get the chance to decide whether they want Barca to stick with Leo or not.

Something about Koeman’s Barca

Back in September, Messi insisted that the club needed a new winning project. The latest results prove that the Catalans have been performing even worse than Quique Setien’s Barca – and it’s something Leo could elaborate on.

Why is it unlikely? Simply because there’s little Messi could change here. Koeman can’t be sacked until the election takes place, the new president won’t come earlier than on January 24.

Retirement

In case it’s something really shocking, as some people assume, Leo could announce his retirement, say, after the 2022 World Cup or even earlier.

Why do we exactly consider this an option?

  • Firstly, because of an injury that reportedly haunts him every day – something which is rarely disclosed by the media.
  • Secondly, he might have lost any desire to play football at a high level; we’ve seen him without a smile quite often these days, and he may take a decision to retire as a Barca player very soon.
