In Zone 1A

Abdul Shakun Abubakari scored twice as Steadfast FC opened their Access Bank Division One League campaign with a comfortable 3-0 victory against disappointing Wa Suntaa at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

The Gangdu Boys have long been a team capable of qualifying to the Premier League proper and opened the 2022-23 season with an emphatic win, sending signals to the rest of the teams of their readiness to tople them all.

Eleven Wonders fell to a 2-1 defeat away to Debibi United on the opening day of the season on their return to the competition after been relegated on the last day of the 2021-22 Premier League campaign.

Two fantastic goals from Man of the match, Emmanuel Kofi Owusu settled the scores to give the newly promoted side their first victory in the Division One League.

At the Malik Jabri Park in Wa , two newly promoted teams squared off but it was the home side Maana SC who got the better of Binbiem FC as Sherif Ibrahim registered the only goal of the game to hand the home side victory. The two were making their debuts in the competition after both gained promotion from the Upper West and Northern Regions respectively.

Amponsah Mathew was on target as Wa Yassin got the new season off with a 1-0 win over new entrants, Kasena-Nakana FC.

In Zone 1B

Mighty Royals head Coach, Frank Owusu enjoyed a winning start to life in the second tier as manager as his new-look side beat former Premier League side Berekum Arsenal 2-1 in the opening match.

Bismark Kyeremeh stuuned the home side with two goals to give the Mighty boys a deserved win though Nafeew Gariba’s consolation wasn’t enough to salvage a point for Arsenal.

 

B. A United scored late to salvage a point against Nkoranza Warriors while former Wa Suntaa striker Junior Ranious Alipio scored a stunning goal at the Sunyani Coronation Park to gift Bofoakwa Tano an opening win of the campaign.

Unity Fc will complete Zone 1B week one fixtures as they welcome Young Apostles on Monday.
