AFCON 2019: Today’s fixtures: The race for the semi-finals continues

Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Senegal’s Lions of Teranga have booked their places in the AFCON 2019 semi-finals on Wednesday.

Teranga Lions have advanced to the semi-finals after claiming a 1-0 win over Benin’s Squirrels at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo.

The Super Eagles have earned a 2-1 victory over South Africa at the Cairo International Stadium.

Thus, Nigeria became the second team, after Senegal, to reach the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals.

Today,Thursday, 11 July 2019, two other games will take place in Egypt where the teams will give their best to join Nigeria and Senegal. The winners of the clashes will then go on to face Senegal and Nigeria.

In the first AFCON 2019 quarter-final tie, Algeria will take on Ivory Coast at the Suez Stadium (18:00 CET).

In their previous six head to head encounters, Algeria’s Verts have not registered a win over the Elephants.They faced each other in the same stage of the tournament back in 2015 and the Elephants gained a 3-1 victory.

The second game will take place at Al Salam Stadium in Cairo (21:00 CET) between Tunisia’s Eagles of Carthage and Madagascar’s Barea.

The two teams have met each on two occasions before, Tunisia came out victorious in the two encounters. Their last clash, back in 2001, finished 2-0 in favor of the Eagles of Carthage.
