Two-time AFCON winning Coach Hervé Renard has set his sights on winning the AFCON trophy with Ghana’s Black Stars, in what will be a historic feat for both coach and Country.

Renard won the title for the first time with Zambia’s Chipolopolo in dramatic fashion in 2012 and chalked another feat; this time around with Ivory Coast in 2015.

He failed to hit such heights with Morocco (although he had a very successful spell with the Atlas Lio s) and has since left the continent for a stint with Saudi Arabia’s national team.

Renard who served as an Assistant Coach for Ghana during the AFCON 2008 tournament under Frenchman Claude Leroy says he has high hopes of being the man to break Ghana’s trophy jinx.

The Black Stars are still chasing a major trophy since winning the AFCON in 1982.

Speaking to TV’s Juliet Bawuah, Renard said “Yes I have to come back one day to help one country to win. That country hasn’t won it for a longer time and that is your country Ghana. I will love to win this feat with the Black Stars”.

Ghana has failed three times to win the AFCON. The Black Stars lost out to Ivory Coast in 1992 via penalty shootout and were edged out by Egypt in 2010.

They also missed out to an Ivory Coast side handled by Renard in 2015 via penalty shootout.
