The launch of the 2021 Northern Marathon

African Youth Renaissance in collaboration with local partners, Mynorthtoday.com on Friday, 23rd October, launched a new initiative dubbed Northern Marathon at the Aliu Mahama Stadium.

The aim is to unearth talents across the five Northern Regions to become global champions in the near future with the first race scheduled for 1st April 2021.

Nana Yaw Osei Dankwah, founder of the African Youth Renaissance, at the launch said

“The idea behind this historic launch is to get runners in the North to participate in and represent the country at National, Continental and Global Athletics Championship”

According to Nana Yaw, this is a historic moment for the north and for them to identify the spirit and endurance of athletes to participate in the Maiden Northern Marathon next year is such a step in getting the best from this part of the country.

On the sustainability of this project, the President of African Youth Renaissance said is a well-thought-out plan and going forward they will try and attract sponsors by putting in energy that will bring corporate Ghana on board.

He said they will create event platforms to ensure we have bigger events in the north that will unearth talents for the country.

For years, many marathons did not offer prize money to its winners, but this has since changed.

Prize money is now competitive among marathons and is used to attract the top runners from around the world to compete in their races.

Therefore there will be prizes for winners of the first edition of the Northern Marathon next year.
