Arsenal FC star Granit Xhaka stressed Thomas Partey’s importance to the London giants following the team’s win over Leicester City on Sunday.

Partey was presented with Arsenal’s Player of the Month trophy for February 2022 before the Premier League game kicked off at the Emirates Stadium.

The Ghana international continued his great form as he opened the scoring with a glancing header and the Gunners went on to secure a 2-0 victory over the Foxes on the day.

Xhaka, who is the Switzerland captain, heaped praise on his midfield partner following the encounter.

“He criticised himself very hard I think [earlier in the season], but he’s fit, he’s healthy, he’s so important for us,” Xhaka told the club’s official website.

“You can see his qualities without the ball, with the ball and everything starts from him and not only on the pitch.

“But off the pitch as well he’s a lovely guy, a guy who helps the young people a lot, I’m enjoying being a part of the midfield with him.”

Partey has made 24 appearances across all competitions for the Gunners this season and scored twice, while also providing one assist in the process.

The 28-year-old joined Arsenal from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid in a transfer worth £45 million (€50 million), becoming the most expensive Ghanaian player of all time in October 2020.

He will be looking to continue his great form when Arsenal host Liverpool FC in a Premier League clash on Wednesday.
