ATHLETICS: Pong Tamale SHS ends Annual Inter House Athletic with five new records

The 28th Annual Inter House Athletic Competition of Pong Tamale Senior High School ended on Tuesday with five records broken.

The event which was under the distinguished chairmanship of Alhaji Alhassan Yakubu, Board Chairman for the school, was attended by The Municipal Chief Executive for Savulugu, Hon. Hajia Ayishetu Seidu.

Six competing House were vying for honours but it was Beal that emerged Overall champions after scooping eight of the twelve trophies paraded.

However, the spotlight of this year’s competition was the five records broken.

In the women’s 400m, best Female Athlete, Abdulai Sherifatu, broke her previous record of 1:05.63sec and set a new record time of 1:04.50 sec. The decorated female track athlete broke a nine year old record in 200m when she run, 28:38sec to erase an existing record time of 29:25sec set by Yahaya Fadila of Kong House in 2011.

In Javelin Girls, an existing record of 20.86m set by Fosua Lydia of Yoo Naa House in 2006 was broken by Abdul Aziz Shafawu of Nkrumah House with a new record distance of 23.54m.

Badak Faustina from Yoo Naa also set a new record in the 800m event when she clocked 2:40.45sec to break Osman Sumaya’s six year long record.

The only record broken by the boys in this year’s Annual Athletic Competition came in the 200m, when Mohammed Hamza set a new record time of 23.44sec to beat an existing time of 24.18 sec.
