Ansu Fati was only granted official permission to represent Spain on Thursday. A day later, he receives his first-ever national team call-up. The 16-year-old joins U21 squad to replace his Barcelona teammate Carles Perez who is withdrawn with an injury.

Fati could now make his international debut on Tuesday in Podgorica.

Fati has scored twice for Barcelona seniors. He has recently received Spanish citizenship. He wasn’t included in the squad to travel to U17 World Cup in October which makes him available for other Spain teams.

There are also talks that Fati could take part in the Tokyo Olympic Games in the summer of 2020. The rules of the competition allow only the players below 23 years old to participate.
