BREAKING: Frank Lampard to be named new Chelsea boss within 48 hours

FRANK LAMPARD will make be appointed as Chelsea manager this week, according to reports.

The Chelsea legend will replace Maurizio Sarri and bring assistant manager Jody Morris with him from Derby County.

TalkSPORT report that Lampard will be officially named as the new manager within 48 hours.

The former Blues midfielder, 41, impressed in his lone season as boss of the Rams, taking the club to the play-off final.

Lampard is Chelsea’s record scorer with 211 goals in 648 matches and one of the Blues’ best players ever, winning 11 major trophies with the club including three Premier League titles and the Champions League.

His record with youngsters – particularly with Chelsea loanees Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori – has convinced also the Blues hierarchy he is the man for the job.

Chelsea will likely not be able to sign players this summer after their transfer ban for falling foul of Fifa rules on the signing of foreign players under-18.

With Eden Hazard already out of the club, Gary Cahill leaving on a free and the likes of Jorginho, Emerson and Davide Zappacosta, the next manager will have to look to Academy to fill the squad.

Lampard relied on a lot of young players at Derby, while there is no man better equipped to assess Chelsea youngsters than Jody Morris.

Morris, 40, was assistant boss and then manager of the Chelsea Under-18s from 2014 to 2018.

SunSport columnist and former England captain Alan Shearer said Lampard is “exactly who Chelsea need right now.”

He wrote: “I think he would be a very good appointment as manager and I understand why owner Roman Abramovich would want him.

“Because of their transfer ban, Chelsea are in a tough situation.

“They are finally going to have to bring some of their youngsters through and use some of their players coming back from being out on loan… Lampard will know a lot of them better than most.

“He had a very decent first year of his managerial career.

“Will he get a little bit of leeway and more time at Chelsea because of their transfer ban? Yes.

“Does he know the football club better than anyone else? Yes.
