Real Tamale United played out a 1-1 draw with Second Division side Sankara Nationals at the Tamasco Park, on Saturday in their penultimate pre-season friendly

Only one game of the 2020-21 National Division One League season has been played and already the likely candidates have gathered at the top of the table.

Young Apostles started their campaign for the only ticket in Zone 1 with a win, Nsoatreman, Mighty Royals and Berekum Arsenal prevailed to take their first three points of the season, while big guys Bofoakwa Tano collapsed at home and B. A United, losing away.

Though former Premier League side RTU and City Rivals Tamale City had their opening games postponed, they can’t be written off ahead of their first matches of the season. Former Black Stars midfielder, Gargo Mohammed suffered defeat in his first game in charge of Steadfast, with Gbewaa FC drawing at Suntaa.

The second week of fixtures for the most exciting Zone in the second tier of Ghana Football, offers up some huge encounters, not least a meeting of last term’s top two at the Coronation Park.

Undoubtedly the headline act is B. A. United hosting Bofoakwa after both sides lost their opening fixtures.

There will be many eyes on Real Tamale United as coach Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko shuffles his squad at Rawlings Park in Kintampo, while Tamale City travels to Nkoranza for a tough encounter against Warriors on Sunday.

Yendi Gbewaa’s season got off to a fantastic start, one will say, drawing 1-1away to Wa Suntaa and looking like the much better side on the day.

Admittedly some wasteful finishing might be a cause for concern but they should be able to create plenty of opportunities to bury Mighty Royals who accounted for Steadfast in their opening game. This game however is slated at the Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale.

Easily the biggest match of the weekend, former premier League sides B. A. United lock horns at the Coronation Park in Sunyani with Bofoakwa, one of the sides looking to challenge them for the top spot in the Zone.

B. A were top of the table last season before the competition was cancelled but will be looking forward to returning to winning ways after starting off with defeat.

There’s plenty of value and excitement regardless of the outcome you want in this game.

After having a week to sit back and observe the Opening matches, RTU gets its season underway away to Kintampo FC at the Rwalings Park after both sides had their matches rescheduled. The Pride of the North lost in their last visit and coach Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko is counting on the better pre-season to lift the concerns of their poor away record in the division one League for some years now.

In other games, Techiman City host Paga Crocodile while Nkuranza Warriors entertain Tamale City.
