Real Tamale United’s quest to continue their forward match towards climbing off the Zone One League Table was halted by Tamale City on match day 13 at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

Emmanuel Kotei 96th minute goal stunned the away side fans as the Citizens claimed their fist ever victory over Real Tamale United in four attempts.

Real Tamale United waved for what seemed a clare penalty when Tawfiq Alolo was brought down by goalkeeper, Abegko Ponko, but center referee Mohammed Zakaria from Techiman thought otherwise.

Emmanuel Kotei’s stunning goal six minutes after regulation time at the Aliu Mahama Stadium not only gave Tamale City bragging rights over their City rivals, it pulled the hosts off the fifth position of the table to third, an important psychological boost for a club in such dire need of good news.

The Citizens now sit 3rd in the Zone One Table with 24 points, one better than Bofoakwa Tano, who themselves are in search of a boost similar to that which coach Hamza Mohammed has provided Tamale City.

Asked if he hopes the win will transform City’s chances of playing Premier League Football next season, Coach Hamza Mohammed told sports24online.com “we all hope so”

“We gave it everything today, it was obviously a special game, but we need to show that every game is as special to us as this game.

We won this game and hopefully we’ll get a few wins now,” he added.

“If we play like we played today with a little bit more calm on the ball we can really improve our game and that can send us there”
