Former Barcelona defender Edmilson says his old team is struggling because of failures in the transfer market.

Edmilson is adamant Barca haven’t replaced their modern day icons.

He explained to Marca: “It is a moment of reformulation within the club at the sports and management level. So far they have been a bit wrong in the changes.

“For example, (Ousmane) Dembélé or (Philippe) Coutinho came with a status and, until now, they have not reciprocated. Very competitive players like (Andres) Iniesta, Xavi, (Carles) Puyol and Neymar left and unfortunately the replacements were not the best possible.

“They failed to find them, especially in the case of Neymar.”

Edmilson continued: “This year Barcelona is not doing well in LaLiga and we will have to see how it goes into the (Champions League) match against PSG. We must not forget that, as I have said several times, they are in a year of reformulation, waiting to see if (Ronald) Koeman’s work goes well or not … There are young players with quality like (Ansu) Fati, Pedri or (Frenkie) De Jong who are in training and it will take them a little time.”
