Head Coach of Real Tamale United, Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko admits a win over second place Berekum Arsenal on Thursday would ‘be huge’ for his side’s chances of making a return to the top flight of Ghana Football.
RTU have enjoyed a strong start under the guidance of the Sports Director of the University for Development Studies and have lost just two of the first nine games of the season, and taking a huge step towards qualifying to the Premier League after 8 years in the wilderness.
The former Hearts coach will be hoping to continue an impressive to the 2020-21 campaign at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in midweek , with second-placed Berekum Arsenal the visitors to Tamale in a huge clash between the top-four rivals.
The former RTU player has spoken on his side’s progress ahead of a testing run of fixtures for the Pride of the North, the visit of the Gunners followed by clashes with Bofoakwa Tano, B. A United.
Coach believes a win this Thursday would be ‘huge’ for RTU and their confidence moving forward, and a victory can move them to the top of the Zone 1 table.
Real Tamale United lost conceded a late controversial penalty in Wamanafo on Wednesday to succumb to their first away defeat but Coach Tanko believes the team is in high spirit to bounce back. “Our aim was to go and win and we couldn’t, But it’s exactly why we are here. We are looking forward to preparing the team to be ready on Thursday” he said.
“If we get a win out of this game it will be huge for us to put a difference between us. We are back at training on we will be totally focused on this game.”
RTU are 4th on the table with 17 points, two adrift of the leaders Bofoakwa Tano who play as guest to Tamale City on Wednesday.
