Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko and his Real Tamale United players are stepping up their preparations for Thursday’s meeting with 2nd placed Berekum Arsenal at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

The Pride of the North take on their counterparts in the first real test of their qualification credentials so far.

RTU have won five of their nine matches in the Division One League League and trail rivals Tamale City on goal difference in 4th, one point behind their opponent and two adrift of leaders Bofoakwa Tano.

Coach Tanko, who is optimistic of the team’s chances of picking the only ticket in Zone 1, supervised training at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium on Monday.

A number of United’s players were also back in training including new additions, Sakibu Adam, Mohammed Hafiz, Ibrahim Gadafi and Ronald Frimpong.

Speaking ahead of the clash, coach Tanko admitted his side are getting better each passing day in training and improved tremendously than a year ago.

“I think we are a better team than we were last season. You can see, [it] is difficult to beat us even away matches I think it would be unfair to say we can’t make it to the Premier League, anyone who has followed the progress of RTU this season will attest to the fact that we are in a strong position to qualify and that’s the target we have set for ourselves, ” he said.

A win for RTU can lift them to the top of the table.
