Real Tamale United continued their impressive run of form on Wednesday afternoon, as they beat Upper East representatives in the Division One League, Crocodile Stars 3-1 at the Aliu Mahama sports stadium.

RTU took the lead after just three minutes, as Mustapha Fuseini slammed home from close range during a trademark flowing move from Coach Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko’s side. After United rallied well with preasure to score more early goals, their good work was undone in the 29th minute, as Alhassan Fauzan Dandawa’s cross from outside the 18 was deflected Into the post by Edmond Apoochaab just before the hour mark.

The visitors pulled a goal back midway through the first half, as the defense failed to Clare in their own penalty area, before Issahaku Alhassan cooly slotted in to set up a tens final 20 minutes. As tensions mounted, substitute Yakubu Labandoo sealed the three points for his side late on with a calm finish from close-range.

Talking Point

RTU continued their relentless surge for promotion into the Premier League next season, but didn’t look quite at their potent best despite the win. Of course, there were a number of gorgeous moves that tore them to shreds, but they noticeably dropped off in the last 20 minutes of the second half.

Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko’s men will head into the third Tamale Derby of the season with Rival Tamale City in fine spirits, having maintained their spot at the top of Zone One table after 22 games. With the season 8 games to go, RTU look more than capable of qualifying their for next seasons’ Premier League Football, but former Hearts and Medeama gaffer, Tanko may well have some food for thought as he looks to dominate the rest of the games.
