The last few months has seen Real Tamale United climbing the table three points at a time. But last week dropped to second due to Bofoakwa Tano winning a protest against Kintampo FC to move two points adrift of the Pride of the North. But RTU reclaimed top spot again after beating Rivals Bofoakwa Tano in the top of the table clash at the Aliu Mahama Sports stadium on Sunday.

Mustapha Fuseini’s deflected goal in the 8th minute was the difference as RTU made amends after slipping in Berekum on Tuesday.

The improvements in the team have been the most noticeable. RTU has only lost twice in the second round against Wa Suntaa and recently to Berekum Arsenal in difficult circumstances. The Northern Blues are now one point clear at the top of the table with four games to end the season.

It has been an unpredictable season so far with stunning results occurring every week. The chaos has been entertaining from a fan perspective, but trying to discern who the legit contenders are is a difficult task. Each of the other three teams currently in the top four has dropped points in at least two of their last five games.

RTU, Bofoakwa Tano and Steadfast have all made a run that landed them on top of the table. They have also all had a stretch in which they dropped points and have fallen from their perch.

But it’s the weekend matches that will determine the real candidates for promotion. Real Tamale United will travel to Sunyani to engage B. A United while Bofoakwa Tano take on Paga Crocodile with Berekum Arsenal entertaining Wa Suntaa.
