Former Premier side Real Tamale United kept their hopes of a return to the top flight of Ghana Football next season alive and increased Mighty Royals worries with a 2-0 victory in week 24 of the Division One League.

Goals in the first half from Ronald Frimpong and returning Kojo Poku, helped maintained their four point lead at the top, behind second placed Bofoakwa Tano, who have an outstanding case with the DC, with six games to end the campaign.

Mighty Royals drop to 10th on the table on 30 points with just one win in their last six game after been banned from their home venue permanently by the Ghana Football Association for violet conduct.

RTU, whose qualification charge had stalled with defeat at Wa Suntaa last week, face remaining games away to Berekum Arsenal and B. A United and home matches with Bofoakwa Tano, Steadfast, Gbewaa and Unity all at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

Real Tamale United coach Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko said he was excited for the impressive showing by his boys but admit it wasn’t easy: “It was a magnificent result and a magnificent game. Royals did fantastic today, they gave us some difficult time at the early stages. We have to feel for them but we never gave in. I admire the tenacity of the performance of my boys, they demonstrated we can get into the league come next season”

This win will give The Pride of the North belief that on their day they can beat anyone, and if anything may leave them regretting not showing such ambition in some other encounters this season. RTU have lost just ones to a team from Brong Aharfo so far since the commencement of the league, and with just one defeat in the second round, there’s hope this is the year for the former premier League side.
