The second round of the Division One League commenced with a highly anticipated match between Tamale Steadfast and Wamanafo Mighty Royals at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium. The reverse fixture in the first round saw the Wamanafo side win 1-0.
The game began brightly for the home side whose new midfield sensation, Abass Sadik dictated the pace of play with admiration. They duely took the lead when star man Issahaku Abdul-Fatawu stood on a dead ball three minutes into the game. He converted from an acute angle to set the stadium into frenzy.

The early goal unsettled Mighty Royals and before they could regroup, their hosts were at it again. Fatawu left his marker in his wake on the right wing before squaring for striker Alhassan Siisu to score from close range. The game looked won already in the first half.
The second half saw a spirited performance from Mighty Royals, who got more physical in their approach. Push as they did, Steadfast were forced into errors before finally succumbing to a goal that was coming. A shot ricocheted off the bar before falling kindly to a well placed player to finish calmly.
With the deficit halved, Mighty Royals believed they could snatch a point from Tamale and gave it their all. Steadfast coach Mohammed Gargo adjusted his system to quell the threat. With GFA Chairman Kurt Okraku watching, Steadfast kept steadfast and run away 2-1 winners in a game that should serve as a reality check for them.
