Real Tamale United (RTU) dropped points against Steadfast on Sunday as they surrendered top spot in the ongoing Division One League in a 1-0 defeat to Steadfast at the Aliu Mahama Sports stadium.

Sunday’s game was the second time RTU have lost to City rivals after first losing to Tamale City in week 5.

The result means Coach Ibrahim Tanko’s side nudge themselves into fourth place on goal difference, ahead of Tamale City City who beat Gbewaa FC 1-0 on Saturday in another local derby.

“Of course we are still in the qualification mood” coach Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko said after the game. “We have to go again and win the next one against Gbewaa FC

“We created a lot of chances, enough to win the game, but I observed my boys were overwhelmed by their previous performances so underrated their opponents” he continued.

“It was tough for ourselves with the goal we conceded, for us, they took the only chance they got and we didn’t so that’s part of the game.

“We played the game better and I applaud the boys for their performances . We can do more and improve but it’s disappointing. It was a tough job against a team that is playing well as well.” coach Tanko.

Steadfast stunned the visitors in the opening 34 minutes when Abu Abdullah powered in a drive inside the 18 of RTU to beat RTU for the first time under head coach Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko.
