There are enticing clashes to look forward to on match day three in the ongoing Women’s Premier League competition. Here is a quick preview of the matches in the Northern Zone.

Fabulous ladies v Ampem Darkoa Ladies

Fabulous Ladies are coming off a 1-0 loss to regional rivals Ashtown ladies and will leave no stone unturned this weekend when they take on Ampem Darkoa Ladies. Sandra Owusu Ansah scored the only goal of the game to hand the former a painful narrow loss in an away tie. Ampem Darkoa recorded a win over Pearl Pia ladies to make up for their slow start to the season. Striker, Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah came to the party as she scored a brace and made sure the ‘’Nanamma’’ kept their title hopes alive. This weekend’s encounter promises a gripping affair. Last season, both teams shared the spoils in a similar game as Princess Owusu and Gnabekan N-Yanyimaya who has switched camp from Ampem Darkoa Ladies to Berry Ladies got on target for the two teams. Fabulous Ladies have to sort out their defensive frailties to stand a chance of winning the game.

Prisons Ladies v Northern Ladies

Prisons Ladies did not start the season on a sound footing, as they lost their opening game to Supreme Ladies 1-0 at home. However, they came back stronger to beat Ashtown ladies 1-0 to record their first win of the season.  Abigail Tutuwaah scored the only goal of the game in the second half after a boring baren game in the first half. On the other hand, Northern Ladies were stunned by Kumasi Sports Academy Ladies on match day two. The ‘’Northern Queens’’ dominated possession but struggled to break down their opponents before the ‘’Academy Ladies’’ scored the only goal of the game through Joyce Asamoah.  Meetings between both sides are usually tough with last season’s encounter ending in a goalless at the Sunyani Coronation park.

Kumasi Sports Academy v Ashtown Ladies

Coach Charles Anokye Frimpong’s Kumasi Sports Academy Ladies put up a stupendous performance last Friday to beat Northern ladies 1-0 at the Aliu Mahama stadium to record their first win of the season. Goalkeeper Kerrie McCarthy was in fine form, denying the home side from getting a goal. Her heroics in post earned her the NASCO POTM award for that game. Ashtown Ladies on the other hand have had an incredibly rough start even after going two games without a point. They are the only team in the Zone who are without a point and sit at the foot of the table. Usually, outings between the two sides are tough. But that notwithstanding, another crucial regional derby will be served on Saturday.

Pearl Pia Ladies v Supreme Ladies

Pearl Pia Ladies will be missing the services of midfield dynamo Barikisu Abdul Rahman for the tie against Supreme Ladies. They have had an inconsistent start to the season after drawing one and losing one in their opening matches of the season. In spite of their slow start, their record against Supreme Ladies could catapult them to a fabulous outing their nemesis. Last season, Pearl Pia ladies defeated Supreme ladies 3-0 at the Tamale Utrecht Park with Barikisu Abdul Rahama, Iddrisu Fahima and Fuseina Mumuni scoring for the home side. Supreme Ladies enter this weekend’s game on the back of two consecutive victories, a feat that should motivate them. Coach Joyce Boatey Agyei has the youngest squad in the League and their survival in the Zone remains a misery. Although they lead the northern zone with six points a much tighter game is expected at the Tamale Utrecht Park on Saturday.
