Newly elected President of the Ghana Kickboxing Association (GKBA), Raja Owusu-Ansah, has expressed his desire to revive the sport throughout the country during his four-year tenure.

He explained that his decision to focus on reviving the sport across the country would help rebrand the association in order to help develop the sport outside Accra.

Mr Owusu-Ansah emerged as the new leader of the GBKA executive in an election which took place last Wednesday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Yakubu Abdul Razak became the vice-president, Samuel Nii Aryitey Mensah— treasurer and Ebenezer Acheampong, Isaac Aikins, Stephen Akrong and Kofi Taylor were elected into the executive board.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Mr Owusu-Ansah said his main focus was to lead a vibrant association which would make kickboxing popular at the schools level.

He explained that his outfit was keen on hosting competitions which would in turn keep athletes in shape for international championships.

“I am glad to have been given the mandate to lead the association and my major concern will be to rebrand kickboxing in the country by developing the sport across the various regions.

“As an association, we need to concentrate on organising constant competitions which will keep our athletes in good shape for international competitions,” he said.
