Italian sports minister Vincenzo Spadafora believes football can resume on May 4.

Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte announced on Friday that the quarantine measures had been extended to May 3, but his tone suggested they would be lifted if people continued to implement social distancing effectively.

Spadafora said, “In the deep belief that our athletes, able-bodied or disabled, will get back to winning and honouring the Tricolor flag again soon, on and off the competition fields, I ask you to reactivate the federations and other subjects of the sports system so that the resumption of training and activities takes place, presumably from May 4, in strict compliance with safety requirements, which will be determined in agreement with the health authorities and scientific bodies.”
