Could you imagine losing Leo Messi? Thankfully, it is unlikely to be the case. According to Cadena SER, Barcelona consider offering the Argentinean a lifelong contract which will keep him at the club beyond 2022.

Moreover, the same source believes Messi’s alleged new deal could keep the Argentinean at Barca even AFTER his retirement. Barca reportedly want to continue working with the ‘Messi’ brand.

Messi’s current contract expires in June 2021. However, there is an option in his deal which allows him to leave already next summer which was confirmed by the president, Josep Maria Bartomeu.

While speaking to RAC1, Messi once again pledged his loyalty to FC Barcelona: “If they want me, I am delighted. My idea is to stay here forever. It has always been like this and remains the same way; nothing has changed.”

As for the new contract, Messi cannot provide any further information. However, he insists he isn’t slightly worried about this. Moreover, the Argentinean assures there will be no problems to start the talks on the new deal with his father, Jorge Messi.

Meanwhile, it also looks like Messi has abandoned his old dream of playing for the hometown club, Newell’s Old Boys:

“I always dreamed since I was little of playing for Newell’s and in Argentina. Everything that surrounds the game there is different from the rest of the world, for good and for bad. But sometimes you have to think more about the family than what you want. The family is the most important thing.”
