According to CatRadio’s journalist Mirko Calemme, the main football governing body UEFA are seriously considering suspending both Champions League and Europa League because of the coronavirus epidemic.

The round of 16 of both competitions could be completed behind closed doors by March 20. The next rounds won’t be played until coronavirus stops spreading around the European countries, the source adds.

This potential change could extend the length of the 2019/2020 campaign with European Championship and Copa America both at risk.

It should be noted that no other sources have confirmed CatRadio’s report. However, one of the leading Italian sports news outlets Tuttosport have claimed that UEFA have been asked to move the European Championship for the next year.

As a reminder, several return legs of both Champions League and Europa League ties will be officially played behind closed doors, including the upcoming clash between Barcelona and Napoli on March 18.

Moreover, La Liga have just announced that the next two matchdays will be played without fans either.

Spain have registered more than 30 coronavirus deaths this Tuesday. Meanwhile, Italy remains the worst-hit country after China with 463 deaths confirmed on Monday. The whole country has been put under complete lockdown recently.
