The Porcupine Warriors are well equipped for Sunday’s epic encounter against Coton Sports of Cameroon in the first leg of the 2018/19 CAF Confederations Cup.
Though many have described the upcoming duel as a stern test for Kotoko, Coach C.K Akunnor and his boys are brimming with much confidence to surmount any challenge they will encounter from Coton Sports.
Some Kotoko players who spoke with Sports24online.com conceded their opponent remains a strong side on the continent but they are highly motivated to fight gallantly for a respectable scoreline in order to make qualification possible in the return leg at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Much will certainly be expected from skipper Amos Frimpong and his colleagues when they defend the flag of Kotoko and Ghana in general in Cameroon this weekend.
Since 2007/08 that Kotoko managed to qualify for the group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup; they have failed in all their subsequent attempts.
Last year Kotoko were eliminated by CARA of Congo at the preliminary stage. It was 1 – 1 on aggregate but CARA showed class to beat Kotoko 7 – 6 on penalty shootout.
This time round Kotoko are resolved to make massive progress in the competition as sole representative of Ghana.
Kotoko in December 2018 triumphed over Kenyan side Kariobangi Sharks 2 – 1 on aggregate to reach this stage.
They are taking much inspiration from their splendid display against Sharks in Kenya which ended goalless draw as they storm Cameroon.
The players have called for great support and prayers from Ghanaians to help achieve their target in Cameroon.
