Real Tamale United’s new recruit, Listowell Amankona ‘s late goal steered the Pride of the North to their first silverware of the season, with the WeyyyUna Boys edging McDan 11 1-0 at The Dagbon State SHS Park on Saturday.

Chances were few and far between in a cagey first half, with RTU dominating possession and winning six corners but neither side could find the back of net.

The match opened up dramatically after the break and Listowell became the first RTU player to score in the McDan Damba Festival Challenge CUP after their Maiden Participation.

McDan 11 thought they had opened the scoring late on but the wood work denied them after a nice move from the Accra based side. And they ultimately fell at the competition’s final few minutes when Listowell nodded in a rebound to win the day for RTU.

Days after exiting the DOL Super Cup in Accra, RTU returned to the North on Friday Night at least with some confidence, thrashing Dreams FC 4-0 in their final friendly game in Prampram.

The Ceremonial Match in Yendi was to honor McDan and the Hon MP for the constituency, Alhaji Aliu Farouk Mahama one of the Directors of the Club, ahead of the Damba Festival Celebration.

The team will return to training On Monday ahead of their first Premier League match in eight years against Great Olympics on Sunday at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.
