Barcelona have stepped up their interest in RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner.

Barca have the Germany international lined up as an alternative to top summer striker transfer target, Lautaro Martinez.

With Inter Milan insisting the Argentine won’t leave for less than his €111m buyout clause, Barca are exploring alternatives.

Mundo Deportivo says Barca sports chief Eric Abidal and assistant Ramon Planes have met with Werner’s father, Gunther, to register their interest and discuss the prospect of a move to Spain this summer.

Interestingly, Planes was spotted returning home from Leipzig on March 12 after seeing the Germans eliminate Tottenham from the Champions League.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are regarded as favourites to sign Werner, who is said to favour a move to Anfield.
