Mohammed Salisu is a Southampton player with a deal agreed for the Ghanaian defender to join the club from Real Valladolid, according to reports.
Diario AS is reporting that Southampton have beaten off the competition from Rennes and Atletico Madrid to secure the defender’s services in a €12 million (£11m) deal. Salisu has signed a four-year deal and Southampton are now just waiting to announce the deal. It could be the club are waiting for work permit issues to be ironed out or until after they have played their final game of the Premier League season this weekend.
It is certainly an eye-catching grab from Southampton, considering the calibre of clubs who were also chasing the player this summer.
Salisu’s form in Spain has been sensational and the Saints have got hold of a potential bargain in the 21-year-old.
Some fairly impressive names in the game are big fans of the player. In February, it was suggested by AS that he was ‘top of Zinedine Zidane’s list’ for potential defensive transfers at Real Madrid this summer.
Former Brazilian international and Valladolid owner Ronaldo has hailed Salisu’s displays and is also a big fan of his now ex-employee.
So hope will be high at Southampton that Salisu might have the ability to emulate Virgil van Dijk in becoming a superstar on the south coast.
