Northern Regional branch of SWAG inaugurated

After weeks of preparations to have its branch joined the national Association, the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) president, Kwabena Yeboah and Executive member Ohene Brenya, on Saturday inaugurated the Northern Regional Branch in a grand occasion at the Pioneer Lodge in Tamale.

The ceremony which brought together almost 40 sports writers and broadcasters from across the region, was the first in the North to be inaugurated.

The region which is becoming a vibrant sports media landscape has over 30 radio stations, 2 television stations and print media with correspondents for national newspapers and portals.

The interim Regional Executives of the Northern Regional branch have since been inducted into office and shall be chaired by Mr. Osman Hafiz with Mr. Abdulai Abdul Majeed as his vice.

The rest of the interim ExCo include Mr. Abubakari Yussif as the Secretary, Mr. Ibrahim Adam (Deputy Secretary), Mr. Mumuni Abdul Mumin (Treasurer), Mr. Mohammed Mutaka as Organiser and Sey Mubarick as the P. R. O, respectively.

SWAG, the umbrella body for sports journalists in the country, has been in existence for over 60 years and currently has inaugurated branches in Bono, Ashanti, Volta, Eastern and the Western regions.

SWAG is noted for honouring sports excellence annually through the SWAG Awards and the SWAG Cup which is often contested for, by the top football clubs in Ghana.
