La Liga publish yet another official statement in light of Wednesday’s decision of the Competition’s Committee to reschedule the game between Barcelona and Real Madrid for December 18.

The league’s governing body announce they don’t agree with the verdict. They wanted another date for the mouth-watering clash, namely December 4. La Liga even list the reasons why the rescheduling for December 18 was wrong:

  • The closest available date is December 4 rather than December 18.
  • The respective clubs shouldn’t be allowed to choose the date for a postponed fixture due to worries over the integrity of the competition.
  • La Liga’s own preference shouldn’t be bypassed, especially when such games as Clasico are concerned because any loss of earning would affect the league more than the clubs.
  • Finally, rearranging the Clasico for the same gameweek the Copa del Rey fixtures are played goes against the agreement between La Liga and RFEF.

As a reminder, the game was initially meant to be played on 26 October, however, it was rescheduled due to security concerns in Catalonia. Both Barcelona and Real Madrid released their official statements where they named December 18 as their preferred date for El Clasico.

La Liga, in their turn, are interested in a different day for the iconic clash – Wednesday, December 4 at 9:00 pm. The reason for that is simple: there are Copa del Rey games scheduled for December 18 which might create a conflict of broadcasting rights. Furthermore, that is the day European Champions Liverpool play their semi-final of the Club World Cup in Doha.
