Zamalek have completed the signing of Egyptian-Danish winger Alexander Adel Jakobsen from Norwegian side Sarpsborg 08 FF on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old bolsters Jaime Pacheco’s attacking options as the Whites look to secure the Egyptian Premier League title after a five-year absence.

Pacheco was keen to add a new winger to his ranks before the transfer window closes following the departure of Mohamed Antar and Ahmed Refaat to Al Masry.

And the FC Copenhagen and PSV Eindhoven youngster is the one Zamalek decided to recruit this summer, becoming their second summer signing after Hamza Mathlouthi.

Jakobsen put pen-to-paper on a four-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 2024.

Jakobsen played for the youth teams of Lyngby BK and FC Copenhagen between 2004 and 2011, before joining Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven, however, his contract with PSV was terminated in the summer of 2014, without representing the first-team.

The winger then went on to represent a number of Scandinavian teams, including Sweden’s FalkenbergsNorway’s FK Bodø/Glimt, and Viborg FF of Denmark.

A return to Sweden was made, and Jakobsen played for the likes of IFK Norrköping and Kalmar FF, before he finally moved to Norwegian side Sarpsborg 08 FF last February, with his contract being terminated just last month.

Overall, he scored 20 goals while providing 13 assists in 167 games across all competitions he featured in since starting his career as a footballer.

Born in Hvidovre, Denmark, Jakobsen was dubbed “Denmark’s Ronaldinho”, and has previously been capped for the Danish national team at Under 17 and 19 levels.

However, in 2013, he got called up by Egypt U20 head coach Rabie Yassin and was part of the Egyptian team that won the 2013 African U-20 Championship in Algeria.

Four years later, Héctor Cúper handed Jakobsen his first and only call up to Egypt’s national team for their friendly against Togo, with the player starting the game before being subbed off at half-time as the Pharaohs went on to win 3-0.
