On their way to the pitch, the youngsters surprised many by appearing wearing Casa de Papel masks and Sobhi revealed who came up with the idea. The 22-year-old also made sure to thank the Egyptian supporters.

“First of all I want to thank the Egyptian fans and my teammates for the hard-fought win,” Sobhi told Beinsports TV channel.

“Players came to my room and we tried to come up with new ideas. Taher Mohamed Taher suggested the idea [of wearing Casa de Paper masks].

“Other players also pitched in their ideas, like when we went to Shawky Gharib’s press conference.

“The most important thing is that we played like men and we’re happy that we brought joy to the Egyptian fans.

“It’s the first trophy that I lift as a captain and it feels different.

“We overcame the pressure and qualified. The first team’s disqualification put a lot of pressure on us and the fans didn’t support us that much at the start of the tournament but we gained their confidence and made them happy,” he concluded.
