Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has revealed the flash moment Jose Mourinho almost had Cristiano Ronaldo in tears.
The Tottenham manager worked with Juventus striker Ronaldo at Real Madrid and in his new book, Modric lifted the lid on how the pair almost came to blows during one game.
“I was surprised by Mourinho’s angry reaction. We were winning 2-0 in the Copa, but Ronaldo did not follow the opponents on a throw-in and José was furious,” writes Modric.
“The two fought for a long time on the field. At the break, in the locker room, I saw Ronaldo desperate, on the verge of tears. He said, ‘I am doing my best and he continues to criticise me’.
“Afterwards, Mourinho came in and called him, demanding responsibility during the game. Both became so hot that only the intervention of teammates kept the fight from going any further.”
