Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo exchanged messages with Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti in the final days of the summer market, it has been revealed.
Ronaldo was linked with a move to Napoli last month as he sought to leave Old Trafford.
Spalletti at the time had opened the door to the deal, stating he “dreamed a little” of working with the Portuguese.
And Italian journalist Alessandro Alciato reports in the final days of the transfer window, Ronaldo sent a Whatsapp message to Spalletti.
“Would you train me? Do you want to do it? Are you ready?” quizzed Ronaldo.
The Italian’s response would have been consistent with what he’d always said in public: “I’m ready. If you come, I will gladly train you.”
However, in the end a deal couldn’t be struck.
