Real Tamale United head coach, Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko says he wants the Aliu Mahama Stadium to be “a fortress” after his side’s qualification to the next stage of the MTN FA Cup competition on Sunday.

Wahab Sulemana’s goal just after defender Mark Tonto was shown the red card was enough to give the Pride of the North their first victory of the 2019-20 season.

The Northern Blues are on a poor run having just picked one point from their first three division one league games this campaign.

But they had to survive for 75 minutes with 10 men after Mark Tonto was dismissed for his second yellow card.

That provided Gbewaa FC with some impetus in the closing stages but Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko’s side held firm to eliminate their local rivals.

RTU, who have struggled for goals this term, displayed a clinical streak that had until now been absent, scoring within 20 minutes of the game.

Real Tamale Utd”s season has so far followed a familiar pattern of failing to convert chances in front of goal before being punished at the other end.

So this was a welcome reversal of fortune for coach Tanko, who had overseen one draw and two defeats the start of the season.
