The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) President, Kwabena Yeboah and Executive member Ohene Brenya, on Saturday, inaugurated the Northern Regional Branch in a grand ceremony at the Pioneer Lodge in Tamale.

The ceremony was chaired by Mr. Shaibu Adam Wiberforce and the Northern Regional Football Association (NRFA) Chairman, Alhaji Rhyzo was a guest speaker on the day.

  1. The AIPS factor

Kwabena Yeboah the national SWAG President emphasized that one of the top benefits of being a member of SWAG is having access to the AIPS card.

2. Inspire, Motivate, Educate

The Northern Regional Football Association (NRFA) Chairman, Alhaji Rhyzoin his speech, urged journalists in the region to make sure that on a daily basis their work inspire, motivate and educate the listening populace.

 

3. Be receptive to new ideas

The Northern Regional Football Association (NRFA) Chairman, Alhaji Rhyzo in his speech, urged journalists in the region to be receptive to new ideas and always stay updated.

 

4. Get journalism training opportunities for journalists in the region

Mr. Shaibu Adam Wiberforce, Chairman of the ceremony made a passionate appeal to the national executives of SWAG to get journalism training opportunities for journalists in the region.

 

5. Social media and internet is key

National Executive member, Ohene Brenya hammered on the importance of social media and internet in today’s journalism.

6. We need a team to represent the region in the Ghana Premier League

SWAG President, Kwabena Yeboahinicated that it is highly unacceptable for the region not to have a single team in the Ghana Premier League and therefore urged stakeholders to make sure the region gets a representation.

The ceremony which brought together almost 40 sports writers and broadcasters from across the region, was the first in the North to be inaugurated.

The region which is becoming a vibrant sports media landscape has over 30 radio stations, 2 television stations and print media with correspondents for national newspapers and portals.
