The TSE International Open Swimming Championship was held at the Trust Sports Emporium. This is the first of its kind in preparations ahead of the Olympic qualifiers in March and Tokyo 2020.

The Open Championship was between some Key swimming clubs in Accra like, Gh Dolphins, Blueffins, and Marlins with Gh Dolphins sweeping most of the medals.

In an interview with the National Swimmers Coach , Mr. Jackson who doubles as the Coach of Gh Dolphins , he disclosed hard work , constant training and constant focus on techniques are the major reasons for their wins . He mentioned swimming as the fastest growing sport all over the world and the Ghana Swimming association are making efforts to make the sport grow.

In preparation for the Olympics in Tokyo 2020 , Mr Jackson mentioned his philosophy in the sport being, training all year round with just a step up in game when it’s getting close to a competition. He spoke of new talents who would be joining the Ghana National Swimming team soon.

Hosting at home as an advantage , Mr Jackson spoke of no pressure with the swimmers since they need a best frame of mind to go into the competition.

Swimming has been a sport claimed to be associated with the elite but looking at the criteria stated by the National coach there is no status required to join the sports it’s about your ability and commitment.
