The Teqball Federation Ghana on Wednesday 21st October, inaugurated its Northern Regional branch in Tamale

The Teqball Federation Ghana on Wednesday 21st October 2020 inaugurated its Northern Regional branch in Tamale.

The event which took place at the Aliu Mahama Stadium is the second among the five Northern Regions to be inaugurated after Upper West.

The move satisfies calls by active players of the sport to get Regional Representatives in place to promote and develop the game across the country.

Speaking at the inauguration on behalf of the National President, Mr. Seth Kofi Poku Osei, Organizing Secretary of the Northern Regional branch, Mr. Hussein Awal, said after inaugurations in other five Regions they expect all sixteen regions to be fully represented by next year.

He said though the Federation is bracing itself for challenges ahead as a new venture, he expects the new executives to work hard to absorb the teething problems the federation will face going forward in their quest to promote the sport in the region.

Mr. Seth Kofi Poku Osei, however, assured the Regional Executives he will strive hard to ensure the success of the new game across the country.

He said Teqball offers athletes an opportunity to represent Ghana at international championships.

He also noted that Teqball was on the fast-track towards being recognized as an Olympic sport, hence the need to set up a regional branch.

The Northern Regional Sports Development Officer of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Madam Salamatu Alhassan said Teqball has come to stay and stated they will partner with the Federation to organize workshops for about twenty-seven P. E coordinators across the region to impact the game to the young ones.

She added that the inauguration of the federation is an important step towards sports development in the region.

The former national Netball coach urged those at the basic level to take up the budding sport because it is full of fun and entertaining to engage in, which also requires full attention, concentration and discipline.

The five-member executive was officially inaugurated to start operations in the region.

Dr. Iddrisu Sulemana will serve as Chairman, whiles Muhazu Choo assists him as his vice. Former Fifa referee, Haruna Ayuba will serve as the technical Director Achuadem Monica as the Treasurer, and Hussein Awal the organizing secretary.

Teqball is a ball sport that is played on a curved table, combining elements of soccer and table tennis.

Back and forth, the players hit a soccer ball with any part of the body except arms and hands. Teqball can be played between two players as a singles game, or between four players as a doubles game.

The game is represented at an international level by the International Federation of Teqball (FITEQ).

A number of world-class footballers have been attracted by the game, and after being added to the programmes for the 2021 Asian Beach Games and the African Beach Games, the sport is now aiming for Olympic inclusion.
