
Chituru Odunze became the third Nigerian to feature at the ongoing U17 World Cup despite not representing the Golden Eaglets.
The Vancouver Whitecaps teenager represents the United States and started in goal in their goalless encounter against Japan on Wednesday.
Odunze, also eligible for Canada replaced goalkeeper Damian Las, who had featured in the Stars and Stripes drubbing by Senegal.
He joins France’s highly rated defender Temitope Akinjogunla and Italy’s Destiny Udogie as diasporic Nigerians representing other nations in Brazil.
Previously, Matthew Olosunde (Rotterham United), Ike Ugbo, Ayo Akinola(Toronto FC), Boyd Okwuonu have appeared for the United States while Victor Moses, Tayo Edun, Timothy “TJ”, Eyoma for have done so for England.
