Barcelona inform all employees (including players) of major pay-cuts in week’s time

Barcelona’s board have informed all employees – including the players – they need to take 30 per cent pay-cuts.

And the demand includes an insistence the cuts are agreed by October 20 or 22. If terms cannot be settled, Barca will unilaterally impose the salary reductions from November 5.

The board is arguing the drastic measures are needed due to the shortfall caused by the empty stadiums following the coronavirus lockdown in Spain.

Cadena SER says employees were alerted to the plans a week ago of the need for salary cuts.

The players make up 70 per cent of the wage bill and as a group are reluctant to accept what the board are requesting.
