Head of Communication at Ghana Premier League giants, Asante Kotoko, Moses Antwi Benefo popularly known in football circles as PJ Mozey, said the Porcupine Worriors intention to move their their home venue from the Accra Sports Stadium to the Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale is to give football fans a feel of the #BringBackTheLove tag by the GFA.
Last week, Kotoko submitted in a docket eight reasons why they intend to switch their home venue to the North after the Ghana Football Association asked they present factors for their request to leave Accra.
In an exclusive interview with Sey Mubarick on the Gbangu FM Hot Sports Program, PJ Mozey related the issues of congestion at the Accra Sports Studium and the teams objective of impacting positively in the lives of the people in the North as some of the reasons for the switch.
“Greater congestion at the Accra Sports Stadium is one factor, with Legon Cities, Hearts of Oak, Inter Allies, Great Olympics and Kotoko as well using the facility, so we thought it wise to move to the Aliu Mahama Stadium which is becoming more or less a white elephant” Antwi Benefo said.
Though he confirmed the team is still waiting to hear from the FA, they are optimistic of the move.
On the issue of Kotoko’s CAF Champions League match against AL Hilal of Sudan, PJ Mozey confirmed their next home game would be played at the Accra Sports Stadium. Kotoko will likely play in Tamale if the team progresses to the group stage of the competition.
“We still want to bring the passion to the people in the North, where Kotoko has a massive support base to enjoy the Kotoko they so much cherish, but our desire to play Hilal was not granted, we are still working on that as well” he continued.
Reacting to comments by some pundits that Asante Kotoko’s move to the North will financially affect clubs negatively, the former Host of Happy FM’s Anopa Bosuo Sports, said that is selfishness on the part of clubs who opine to that assertion and that football people should think of the interest of the game and not their parochial interest.
