Real Tamale United moved to the summit of the Division One League Zone 1 table level on points with rivals Tamale City as goals from Baba Kushibo, Ronald Frimpong and Adam Sachibu powered them to a 3-0 win over Berekum Arsenal at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

RTU are top of the Zone at this stage of the season for the first time since the 2011/12 campaign which they ended by claiming a ticket back to the Premier League after relegation the previous season.

Victory means United go to 20 points and overtake Tamale City who accounted for Bofoakwa Tano on Wednesday, on goal difference– this having last been achieved after the same number of games.

The upturn in United’s fortunes under Coach Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko is further underlined by the changed circumstances as they head to Coronation Park on Sunday, to face Bofoakwa Tano.

Coach Tanko said: “ I am always delighted when we win and we are top at the moment but there is still a long way to go, there are big games coming up so we have to focus on that”. We created chance that we could scored but all these are part of the learning process so we will go back to the drawing board and improve on the potency upfront, he said.

Midfielder Baba Kushibo connected a loose ball from a first-half corner to give RTU the lead, before Ronald Frimpong making his first home debut struck to make it 2-0 before the break.

Adam Sachibu another player making his first start at home added a third in sensational style with a simple tap in after goalkeeper Edu Emmanuel had committed himself when he came out of his area.

Meanwhile, defeat was Berekum Arsenal’s second in a this season so far, having lost 1-0 to Young Apostles in their last away game and have dropped to 6th on the table.
