Tamale City moved to within five point of B.A United after sealing a 2-0 victory over Coach Danjuma’s side at the Aliu Mahama Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Gbewaa knew victory over the Citizens would see them move to the first half of the Zone One table – at least – but Emmanuel Duku’s 15th-minute strike swerved past goalkeeper Abubakari Mutawalkil at his near post to give the hosts the lead.

Alhassan Abass then wasted a glorious opportunity to extend City’s advantage early in the second half, firing a shot straight at Abubakar with plenty of the goal to aim at, while Yussif Muniru clawed the ball off his own goal line to keep out Gafaru header in the second half as Hamza Mohammed’s side held onto their advantage.

They finally made the game safe on the 54th minute through captain Alhassan Abass from the penalty spot, securing what could prove to be a crucial three points in the race for promotion to the Ghana Premier League.

Victory sees Tamale City move to within five points of league leaders B.A United, who drew 0-0 with Young Apostles in Sunyani.

However, it’s still very congested at the top following wins for City, Kintampo FC and Techiman City on Sunday, with the top five teams separated by six points as this enthralling race for automatic promotion continues.

Tamale City face another tricky looking trip to a promotion rival B. A United on Sunday while Gbewaa FC would look to bounce back to winning ways at home to Techiman City.
